Many people seeking free credit repair do not realize that they can do it themselves. There is no such thing as free credit repair per se. You either have to invest your money or your time: And sometimes both.

There are advertisements virtually everywhere promising free credit repair. Anyone who has ever tried to clear a credit report of negative information can tell you this: it is not easy. It requires time, strategy and a great deal of effort. Anyone who tells you they can do for you for free would most likely have a something else up their sleeve.

Not only that; but the strategies for fixing bad credit can be implemented by anyone armed with the right knowledge. There is no big secret.

The first thing you need to do is get a hold of all your credit reports from all the three major reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian and Transunion). You are entitled to a free credit report from each bureau once each 12 months.

It is best to get a separate report from each bureau. Why? Because you want to see what is in each report exactly as it appears. A merged report – such as the one you typically get from a mortgage company – will not give you all the necessary details about what information appears where.

Once you get your reports, you will have to go through each one with a fine-toothed comb. Make sure all the information belongs to you and is accurate. If you have negative information (which you probably do if you’re reading this) there are two ways to get it removed:

The first method is negotiation. This is the best way to go if you have collection notions. Why?

Well, collections are extremely hard to get off a credit report. Collection companies are not known for being ethical. They often will keep “verifying” disputed information even if it is not accurate, unless you have very strong evidence to support your dispute.

There would be no point of even trying to negotiate if you do not have something to bargain with. This means one word, money. Collectors want money period. Depending on the age of the debt, you can actually make a percentage of the whole amount owed and still get it taken off your report.

Negotiation is also the best way to go when you have late payments (or delinquency that has not yet gone to a third party collection Agency). Most creditors are the voices of the past amount due before the transfer credit report.

A word of caution regarding negotiations: Get everything in writing, agreed to before sending money, especially when it comes to collection agencies.

The second method for setting a bad credit report dispute information. This is where the relationship of reading is really important. The information provided should be fullyand accurate. Note those two words, complete and accurate, very well.

Now, you will look for any negative information on your credit file that is not complete or accurate. You will also look at the dates (especially the date of delinquency), amounts and creditor names. If anything is incomplete or inaccurate you will write to the respective bureau(s) and request a deletion of the respective account.

A word of caution regarding credit report Disputes: All the information you deny success Month are updating to. This is devastating to your credit score. Therefore, it should be quite safe, before the success of the competition.
